ACTING
“One of the most thorough and searching actor training courses in Europe.”
Simon Stephens, Playwright
The Richard Burton Company
For the final year of their training, actors join the College’s Richard Burton Company, together with students from the stage management and design courses. Working with professional directors and production supervisors, the company produces around 15 shows every year, from classic plays to contemporary drama.
New Writing
The College’s annual new writing festival enables actors to work closely with up-and-coming writers and directors on plays commissioned by RWCMD in association with Gate Theatre, Royal Court, Paines Plough and Sherman Theatre. Productions open at RWCMD before moving to London’s Gate Theatre. The courses also feature opportunities for students to explore their own ideas, develop original work and take part in masterclasses with some of the country’s most exciting writers.
Showcase Performances
Annual showcases in Cardiff and London place final year students in front of leading agents and casting directors. In 2016, the College staged its first US Showcase in New York City, which returns in 2019.
Masterclasses
The College’s Masterclass Series provides opportunities to network with leading professionals and get expert advice on everything from audition technique to working with agents.
