Nick Whiting

After leaving the Royal College of Music, Nick was a member of the Auriol String Quartet and freelanced with all the London orchestras until accepting the position of Principal Second Violin with the Philharmonia Orchestra. After ten years with the Philharmonia he moved to Wales to take the position of Associate Leader of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.


Nick has also appeared as guest leader with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, English Sinfonia and the English National Baroque Ensemble with whom he gives regular concerto appearances.


In addition to his playing with BBC NOW, Nick takes an active role in the orchestra's education and outreach work. He is a professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he teaches and coaches. He has also coached the violins of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and has regularly adjudicated competitions including the BBC Young Musician of the Year, Gloucester Young Musician and Abertawe Festival for Young Musicians.
