SCENIC CONSTRUCTION

The Foundation Degree in Scenic Construction is a two-year programme which has been developed in response to the acute shortage of suitably qualified entry-level Scenic Construction Technicians to work in the rapidly expanding stage and screen industries in Wales and beyond. The course has been designed in conjunction with and around the needs of the industry. Students will have the best of both worlds, RWCMD and industry placements’ experience. A maximum of eight places will be available ensuring that each student receives a very high level of personal attention.

Students will undertake a series of placements delivered in partnership with some of the largest and most prestigious TV and film productions companies in Wales and the UK – Bay Productions, Cardiff Theatrical Services (WNO), 4Wood (Bad Wolf), and Wild Creations.

Scenic Construction students will be based in the College’s large and superbly-equipped workshops at Llanishen Studios and will train alongside Design for Performance and Stage Management students, interacting and collaborating fully with students from across the College community during placements. The College, its workshops and on-site experience with key partners will provide an unrivalled opportunity for study which is unique in the UK.

“Scenic construction work is thriving alongside the rise of Film and TV production in Wales. We’re delighted to support the College to train the next generation of practitioners to take on new jobs in the industry.”
